counseling for life’s challenges & goals
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Address anxiety, depression, life transitions, burnout, relationship difficulties, grief, or identity exploration. Whether navigating everyday stressors or complex psychological issues, we’ll collaborate to understand your experiences, regulate emotions, shift unhelpful patterns, and build a more grounded and purposeful way of being.
RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING
Using Gottman Method Couples therapy and other evidence-based approaches, I help partners strengthen communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and reconnect with shared purpose. If you’re facing specific issues or just want to strengthen your bond, therapy provides a space to grow together.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT & COACHING
Therapy isn’t just for addressing problems. Many clients come to explore untapped potential, seek motivation and accountability, and align their behavior with their values—all toward creating a more intentional life. This work is grounded in insight and neuroscience-backed tools that enhance clarity, focus, and adaptive functioning.
What IS THE COUNSELING PROCESS LIKE?
Our sessions will be highly collaborative and structured around your unique goals and needs. While each client’s issues and path are distinct, our work will follow a flexible yet intentional progression—centered on understanding, skill-building, and real-world application designed to support meaningful, enduring change and psychological resilience. While adhering to this framework will ensure you’re progressing toward your goals, our interaction will be dynamic, personal, organic, and whenever possible fun!
EVALUATION
Insight without judgment.
We begin by exploring how you process experiences—mentally, emotionally, and physiologically.
This includes establishing how your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and biology interact, identifying learned patterns of response that may be causing you issues, and illuminating how past events and associated triggers influence your reactions in the here and now.
Clarifying your lived experience, reactive tendencies, core beliefs, values, and aspirations at this stage helps lay the foundation for fostering self-directed growth.
COLLABORATION
Equipping you for success.
With these acquired insights, we’ll systematically strengthen and expand your repertoire for thinking, feeling, and acting.
We’ll build skills in both rational processing and psychological flexibility—enhancing your ability to solve problems, make decisions, regulate emotions, and adopt lifestyle habits that facilitate resilience, optimal functioning, and dynamic living.
Our goal isn’t to erase who you are, but rather broaden your options for engaging with yourself and the world—so you can pursue the life you want more effectively.
ACTIVATION
Skills practice and integration.
Equipped with newfound clarity and skills, we’ll focus on deliberate, real-world application—helping you turn insight into action across everyday situations until it becomes second nature.
Each session will provide clear, actionable steps designed to reinforce neural pathways, integrate new abilities into your personality, and support enduring growth and adaptability regardless of circumstance.
By consistently applying what you’ve learned, you’ll strengthen your sense of self-efficacy and agency, unlocking new horizons of opportunity for your future.

Personal Development & Coaching

- Enhancing self-awareness and performance
- Building emotional intelligence
- Strengthening interpersonal effectiveness
- Prioritizing values-based living
- Increasing resilience and clarity
- Retraining patterns of thinking for greater contentment and happiness
- Managing motivation and stress-related physical symptoms
- Improving emotional regulation and impulse control
- Cultivating sustainable lifestyle habits for health and wellness
My approach is integrative and evidence-based, grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—one of the most effective and extensively researched treatments for anxiety and depression, which are core features of virtually all psychological disorders. The Third-Wave CBT models I employ (e.g., ACT, MCBT, CBT-I, CT, CT-R, the GCM, ST, etc.) extend beyond traditional domains of cognition, affect, and behavior to include physiological and motivational systems, offering a structured yet flexible framework for addressing nearly all DSM diagnoses through targeted methodologies and interventions.
Additionally, when appropriate I may also draw from Existential Therapy, Psychodynamic Theory, Attachment Theory, and Positive Psychology to support meaning-making, emotional insight, relational healing, and strengths-based growth. I also emphasize the role of physiological and lifestyle variables—including sleep, nutrition, physical activity, substance use, and nervous system regulation—in mediating psychological functioning, and collaborate with clients to optimize these domains in support of their overall wellbeing. EMDR based interventions will be available soon.
When working with substance use, I rely on harm reduction and relapse prevention paradigms—supporting both abstinence and moderation goals, while accommodating the client’s specific situation, readiness, values, and goals.
For couples counseling, I use the Gottman Method—one of the most empirically supported approaches to relationship therapy. It targets communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, and breaches of trust, offering a practical, emotionally attuned path to strengthening relational bonds, deepening intimacy, and fostering mutual understanding.
I offer counseling for individuals and couples across all demographics, worldviews, and life stages. My approach is always personalized and responsive—adapted to align with your unique values, beliefs, lifestyle, and cultural context.
My own life has been characterized the roles of an artist, musician, academic, oil and gas professional, and stay-at-home father, among others. Raised primarily by my mother and two sisters, I’ve developed a nuanced understanding of diverse perspectives, allowing me to comfortably bridge traditionally “masculine” and “feminine” ways of thinking and feeling (in Jungian terms: my anima is well developed). These diverse life experiences have profoundly broadened my perspective and systems of belief, enabling me to engage clients—men and women alike—where they are, with flexibility, insight, and genuine respect for the complexities of each person’s journey.
Regardless of your background or what brings you to therapy, I’m committed to providing a space where your experiences are met with curiosity, compassion, and acceptance.
Not exactly—but we’ll work together to equip you with the tools and insights to make meaningful, lasting change. Therapy isn’t about becoming dependent on your counselor; it’s about building self-efficacy, strengthening your sense of agency, and expanding your capacity for resilience.
But don’t let that scare you. Our sessions will be highly collaborative, with me taking the lead when helpful. The broader goal, however, is to gradually hand you the reins—allowing you to make effective decisions and take purposeful action independently. As you become more skilled in applying insight, logical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, self-motivation, and emotional regulation, you’ll feel increasingly confident navigating challenges on your own.
The duration of therapy varies based on your goals, concerns, and preferences. Some clients benefit from short-term work focused on a specific issue, while others engage in longer-term therapy to support deeper growth and transformation. We’ll revisit your progress regularly and adjust as needed.
AO-Counseling is a private-pay practice, but I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement if your insurance plan allows. You’re welcome to contact me with questions—I’m happy to help you navigate the process.
Sessions are $90 for individuals and $100 for couples. A sliding scale may be available for those with financial need. My goal is to make therapy accessible while maintaining the quality of care and attention every client deserves.
I come from a diverse academic, professional, and social background—with a degree in English, an early career in music, later work in the oil and gas industry, and a very honorable (though difficult) stint as a stay-at-home father and graduate student. These experiences have engendered adaptability, expanded my worldview, and taught me to remake myself in response to life’s demands rather than expect the world to adapt to me—a skill I actively work to instill in clients throughout therapy.
I am passionate about continual personal development, learning, and seeking to optimize psychological functioning through better health and lifestyle decisions. I’m also a deeply proud father and partner—with both my girls providing indescribable meaning, motivation, and joy in my life.
